History of Marbella

Ancient times

The area surrounding the town of Marbella has been populated for millennia, and local artefacts and evidence of human existence has been salvaged from the surrounding mountain range in support of this. Early settlers include earliest man, whose legacy has been left on the mountains and in caves in the area. Like many towns in the area, ferienwohnung spanien,  the Romans too left their mark, and you can still view some of their splendid influences on the town in the Roman Baths as well as within the street layout in the older part of town.

The Romans gave way to a brief period of Visigoth occupation, followed by the long drawn out Arab occupation of the area. The Moors documented their time in the vicinity of Marbella well, and they began to fortify the town, building a protective fort complete with surrounding waters, the walls of which can still be seen today. Other examples of Moorish architecture can be seen in the city walls and the streets of the old town. After the reconquista in the 15th century and beyond, the area began to give way to the architecture of the Christians, and much of the existing Arab town was dismantled and redesigned.

Industrialisation

Marbella was at the time famous as a centre for farming and breeding animals, as well as the production of wine. The town also became important during the increasing commercialisation of the area, becoming an important centre of trade and manufacturing, as well as developing some important mines.

Present time

From its small population during that time, the municipality has grown to over one hundred thousand people, and the population swells in the summer months thanks to the tourism industry which remains important to the area’s economy. Coupled with the vast growth in tourism in the past few decades, the town grew to become a great area for leisure. There is a well developed network of leisure facilities, golf clubs, 5 star hotels and entertainment facilities.

The municipality takes great pride in the area and in its reputation as a pleasure spot on the coast, which continues to attract the rich and famous from Spain and internationally. The town and its local ports are known worldwide for their luxurious hotels, restaurants and brilliant nightlife, and of course the port of Banus remains well known for its luxury yachts and extravagant lifestyle. There are also international chains of shops and high end boutiques in which you can part with some of your money.

Visiting Madrid

An outstanding city

1562 is the year when Madrid became the capital city of Spain, mostly thanks to its location: in the center of the beautiful Iberian Peninsula. The central location together with the high altitude led to an interesting climate in Madrid: cool winters, but warm, dry summers. This means that you should take Madrid into consideration as holiday destination just during your summer vacations. If you ask somebody to describe ferienhaus lloret de mar, you learn the fact that it is a city of outstanding monuments; in fact, you need a lot of energy when visiting Madrid, because there are too many places and monuments that deserve your attention.

The medieval center, dating back to the Habsburg era of Madrid and the famous Prado Museum are two of its most important attractions, but prepare for a very long list! However, it is wrong to describe Madrid as just a cultural destination, because this is not true! Madrid is a lively city, with a very active nightlife, with numerous pubs, clubs and terraces ready to receive their clients until the early hours of the morning.

Sightseeing in Madrid

Madrid has no equal when it comes to sightseeing; the city preserves monuments from all its periods, which led to a rich cultural heritage, as well as a rich architectural one. Your tour should start with Barrio de Moreria, one of the districts where the Moorish architectural style is extremely present; in the district, visit the San Andres, Paja and Cruz Verde squares. The beautiful Puerta Del Sol is another ‘’must’’ and if you follow the narrow, cobbled streets that pass through it, you reach the famous Descalzas Reales Monastery and then the Encarnacion Monastery. The Uceda Palace comes next, but your attention should then be directed towards the San Isidro Cathedral. For a fine example of luxury and elegance dating back to the 18th century, visit the Buenavista Palace, built especially for the Alba Duke. Of course, you can’t put an end to your tour without visiting the Prado Museum, the Parque Del Retiro, the Botanical Gardens and the Royal Palace; they are the crème de la crème of Madrid!

Fun, fun, fun

The gastronomy is wonderful in Madrid, with recipes such as the garlic soup or the specialties containing asparagus. In what concerns the nightlife, you should know that Madrid has many animated regions where the young can go and have fun in their typical manner. The fiestas are also at every step, so there are no excuses for you for not visiting Madrid at least once!

Javea: The Historical And Modern City

Javea is a picturesque seaport situated next to and under Montgo Hill, surrounded by the rolling forests of a beautiful National Park. Protected by the winter trade-winds, Javea enjoys an almost perfect climate year-round. However, the history of this grown-up fishing village is rather turbulent and bloody, it is also well kept and ingrained within the very city itself.

The History Of Javea

Like most towns in the Costa Blanca region, Javea’s origins can be traced back to the very beginning of written history. Over time it grew in size and during the Roman age it became a very important center for trade and cultural exchange. The fall of the Roman Empire spawned a seemingly never-ending parade of conquerors. The first to take the city were the Visigoths in the 6th century. Christian monks of that time founded many cathedrals and basilicas across the region including the monastery of ferienwohnung spanien . In 714, death and destruction again visited the city, this time in the form of the Moors. The Moors ruled for several centuries until they themselves were pushed out by the Spanish Reconquista. The last of the Moorish community were expelled in 1609 but traces of their heritage can still be seen around the city.

Modern Javea

The bloody and violent history left many monuments from many societies that create an eclectic charm to the modern city. One area, called the Old Town by locals, is situated nearly 3 km in-shore as a safeguard against pirates that once attempted to sack and loot the riches of the monastery and the town. The Gothic Church of Saint Bartolome from the 16th century is a grand sight that stands majestically in the Old Town district and a market that sells fresh ingredients and fish is located across the street. There are also numerous bars and cafes lining the narrow streets that twist and turn their way around the church and through the Old Town. Be sure to visit the historical museum Soler Blasco on Primicias Street before leaving the area.

Other than the Old Town, there are two other areas of note within the city; the port and the Playa de Arenal. The port has various restaurants serving traditional Mediterranean dishes. Most of the eateries are situated on a terrace that overlooks the bay and offers beautiful views with the delicious meals. The Playa De Arenal is a white-sand beach lined with shops and restaurants of all types. The promenade follows the ocean and features many open-air shops and bars. Javea has a long and eventful history that is still evident in the remaining architecture. The old city blended with the new makes a beautiful backdrop for any vacation. Javea’s many roads and trains connect it to the rest of the country and make the city easily accessible and very popular.

Fiestas and folklore, history and gastronomy

The islands are an interesting combination of history, fiestas, folklore and gastronomy, so I assure you that you will helplessly fall in love with them! When it comes to their history, you should know that it is a very agitated one, with many cultures that ruled over them at one time or another in the past; the Greeks, the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Moors and finally the Christians, they all left their traces, so the Balearic Islands are an absolutely remarkable combination of architectural styles, flavors and tastes. The fiestas are characterized by melodious music, lots of colors and ceremonial dances, so taking part in one of them is the best opportunity for you to enjoy the true atmosphere of the islands. The gastronomy will surprise you with sophisticated recipes such as the noodles soup or coques (tartlets with fish); try them, they are delicious. Enjoy your holiday!

Visiting The Beautiful Region Of Andalusia

A tourist destination

Andalusia is one of the most popular regions in Spain, having the beautiful Seville as capital. The region hosts eight provinces, each with its own architectural and historical heritages and each with its individual, unique atmosphere. Huelva, Malaga, Cordoba, Seville, Jaen, Granada, Cadiz and Almeria are the provinces that you can visit in Andalusia, so if you plan a holiday there, make sure you see each and single one of them! Andalusia will impress you with its varied and picturesque landscape, with the spectacular climate, the friendly character of its inhabitants, with almost 3000 hours of warm, welcoming sun every year, long, delicate beaches and the fantastic natural ports that represented a refuge for the Phoenician navigators.

The natural attractions

Andalusia is one of those places in Spain where you will be welcomed by an impressive list of natural beauties. First of all, you have to visit the amazing club villamar, Costa de la Luz, bathed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The sands you will find here are absolutely spectacular, as they are some of the finest in the world. Second of all comes Costa del Sol, the Mediterranean Coast that enjoys a more pleasant climate; however, this coast has less wind, so those who love windsurfing will not be pleased with it. The Guadalquivir River is another important natural attraction of Andalusia, as well as the Sierra Morena Mountain Range. You have to see all these wonders: they are absolutely fantastic!

Other attractions of the region

Andalusia has a long list of attractions, so you have to spend a long holiday there in order to see them all! For example, you are not allowed to miss Seville, the capital of the region, a city with a unique ambience and a list of monuments that will take your breath away: the Giralda Bell tower, symbol of its Arabian times, the huge Cathedral, the Torre del Oro or the amazing Santa Cruz Barrio. Then visit Granada, the city that hosts the Moorish jewel of Spain: the Alhambra Palace. Malaga waits for you with a splendid, picturesque Mediterranean Coast and with its Moorish Alcazaba, while Cadiz is a place that those who love history will adore; it is one of the oldest cities in the country, founded by the Phoenicians. Costa de la Luz and Costa del Sol will be there, waiting for you with a huge list of seaside attractions and the warmest sun of the country, so you will also get a nice tan. Enjoy!
